23 Books for My 23rd Year

Because my TBR isn’t long enough already

Birthdays have never been my thing. Correction: MY birthday has never been my thing. The gifts, the congratulations for being alive, the should-I-hug-her-even-though-she-hates-hugs glances— it’s a recipe for awkwardness that I’d happily omit from Life’s Manuscript.

Despite my aversion to birthdays and most *any* talk of my own, I‘m still faced with the horror of being asked “what I’d like” for it. This year, instead of dodging the question when cornered (I’m being dramatic; it was a text) by my friend, I asked for his favorite book. I’m quite the sentimental bitch, what can I say?

An idea I’ll likely regret

Today, while driving and spending an absurd amount of money, as spending is one of my favorite activities, I realized I’d like to read not only my friend’s favorite book but lots of people’s. Twenty-three to be exact.

I decided to post a Snapchat, then an Instagram story, asking my friends for their favorite titles. I received a sad amount of responses, so I posted a follow-up video telling my friends their replies were not optional. It IS my birthday…

The plan

I’ve officially one year to read twenty-three people’s favorite books. Next year, hopefully, I can say it was a success and restart with a whole new list of twenty-four. Do you get where I’m going with this?

After completing each book, I plan to write a subsequent review on this blog. But it’s not just about the book, it’s about the people who recommended them. Each person who made my list also impacted my life in some way, whether minor or significant. I’d like to talk about them, reflect on them. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t DREAM of using real names…

Seriously, I won’t. I’m not trying to get sued. Or fired.

Happy reading to me!!!!!

First on the list!
